We are thrilled to be creating an 826 Valencia Writers Room on campus at Everett Middle School. This will be our first daily, in-school tutoring effort. This is a huge endeavor and will impact every student on campus. We will coordinate with the language arts department to work on specific teacher-driven projects during school hours. Tutor and workshop teacher Laurel Newby will be the main liaison between tutors and Everetts teachers, enabling us to better serve both teachers and students. We anticipate that Everett students will make great progress with their writing as a result of the individual attention they receive.
We are currently looking for donations to the writers room. Here is our wish list:
- Chairs
- Rugs
- Floor lamps
- Books
- Coffee table
- Baskets
- General school supplies (pens, pencils, paper, notebooks, etc.)
- Old maps (for decoration)
- Pillows
We hope to replicate, as best as possible, the look and feel of 826 Valencia. This means dark woods, muted patterns on the rugs, and old-style furniture.
These items would need to be delivered on Saturday, August 16, to Everett Middle School, which is located at 450 Church Street. Please e-mail Laurel Newby for details.
