826 is Looking for a Programs Director

826 Valencia is looking for a teacher to join our team as a full-time Programs Director.

This person will:
• work closely with the other Programs Director (Erin Neeley) and Programs Assistant (Susan Tu) to implement programs at 826 with 826 tutors,
• manage programs including the field trips during the school day, drop-in tutoring, and the evening and weekend workshops,
• provide support to the drop-in tutoring program,
• manage the workshops program: train volunteer-teachers, create the workshop schedule and maintain a system of student and teacher evaluations,
• interview and orient new tutors, and
• coordinate tutor training sessions.

Additionally, this person will:
• manage the Teacher of the Month program
• coordinate the 826 scholarship program

Other qualifications include:
1. Strong people skills.
2. Excellent organizational skills.
3. A passion to improve literacy in students.
4. At least two years of experience in the classroom as a public school teacher.
5. Experience working with groups of teachers on collaborative projects.
6. A deep commitment to student success.
7. Well versed in the issues around diversity in public school settings.
8. A very strong work ethic with the ability to manage projects successfully without a lot of supervision.
9. A love of books and publishing.

May additionally have/be:
1. Experience presenting curricular and reform ideas at conferences.
2. Able to speak another language, preferably Mandarin/Cantonese or Spanish.
3. A Masters in Education.
4. Experience organizing large number of people moving in many directions.
