826 Valencia

Congratulations to Jackie Moses, 826 Valencia Teacher of the Month for April!

Ms. Moses is an English teacher at Raoul Wallenberg Traditional High School, where she has worked for the past seven years. Extremely valued by her students and colleagues, she is described as frank and friendly, warm and caring.

“Ms. Moses doesn't treat you only like a student, she treats you like a friend,” one of her junior English students reported. “She's a great role model, who you always know will look out for you. She is always real -- which is the most important thing. She's not shy about making mistakes and sharing the lessons learned from them. That’s what makes her such a special teacher.”

In the classroom, many students agreed that she really puts effort into her job and challenges students to go above and beyond the call of duty. “Her lessons are interesting,” one student said. “She really makes you want to come to class and listen.”

Another student told us that Ms. Moses is “really cool to talk to and she’s always really encouraging. When I needed help deciding on a project, Ms. Moses took the extra time to make sure I didn’t just give up.”

At Wallenberg, Ms. Moses is not only known for her work in the classroom, but outside the classroom as well. Students appreciate the fact that she volunteers her free time to help them. Ms. Moses is known for genuinely caring as well as helping students with their problems. She also volunteered her time to help with Wallenberg’s Black Student Union. Wallenberg English Department Head, Judith Mahnke, recently praised Ms. Moses: “In and out of the classroom, Jackie is full of endless energy, enthusiasm, and support.”

One of the key figures in the new 826 Valencia publication Exactly… -- an anthology of children’s stories written by students at Wallenberg -- Ms. Moses has shown amazing respect, encouragement and commitment to those students. This project could not have been accomplished without her dedication and creativity.

Congratulations again to Jackie Moses. We are fortunate to have a teacher of her caliber in our community.
