The Pirate Store and Events Manager serves as a liaison between 826 Valencia and the larger community, working closely with a team-oriented staff to promote and fundraise for the organization and its student programs through our street-front pirate supply store and special events. Imagination and sense of humor are vital.
Minimum Qualifications:
- A deep commitment to and understanding of the 826 mission
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills
- Proven organizational and project management skills, with a strong eye for visual and logistical details
- Enthusiasm for working with people of all backgrounds and ages
- Good instincts and command of marketing and money-management
- Proficiency in both English and Spanish
Preferred Qualifications:
- Retail management experience
- Strong aesthetic and artistic sensibilities
- Familiarity with Macintosh and design programs such as InDesign and Photoshop
Events coordination entails overseeing and attending all 826-sponsored events; managing all event details including technical needs, scheduling, promotion, and volunteer management; collaborating with community partners including performers, authors, students, and other arts organizations; seeking fiscal and in-kind donations and managing all related data; writing press releases and executing all PR as related to promoting events; and updating and managing the events calendar and all related information on the 826 website.
The retail management aspect of the job entails overseeing and participating in all aspects of the pirate store including inventory, buying, shipping and receiving; managing a staff of 4-6 part-time store employees plus a team of volunteers; directing the design of creative products and window displays; maintaining the store’s physical appearance; attending retail expos; updating and managing the store web site; marketing for 826 publications; and planning and executing store events.
The start date for this position is August 1, 2007.
Salary is commensurate with experience.
