After five weeks of wild reading and writing at 826 Valencia and Mission Learning Center, the 2nd through 5th grade students are finished with the English Language Learners Program! During their time here, they learned about journalism and created a newspaper, interviewed pirates, wrote rock songs, made a podcast (check it out on the 826 website!), wrote poetry, spent a day with a Yo-Yo champion, meditated like a chicken, created books, worked with awesome tutors, and wrote about the insects they discovered at Paxton Gate, the taxidermy store next door.
Graduation day included students reading their written work, tutors sharing their favorite moments from the program, cookies, diplomas, and of course, resounding applause. 826 is so excited to acknowledge the awesome work and dedication of these summer writers!
