We are so proud to announce that 826 Valencia co-founder, Dave Eggers, is one of the six recipients of a $250,000 award by the Heinz Family Foundation. The Heinz Awards are "bestowed on six extraordinary Americans whose pioneering achievements have helped expand human understanding, spur innovation and enhance the world’s capacity to sustain itself."

826 Valencia is also proud to announce that Dave Eggers has decided to distribute his entire award to all seven of the 826 chapters! Dave Eggers asked that the Heinz Foundation send the whole amount directly to 826 National and they kindly agreed.

We'd like to thank the wonderful people at the Heinz Family Foundation for recognizing Dave Eggers and his work with the 826 centers. Thanks, also, to Dave Eggers for the donation of his gift to help our chapters continue providing the writing support students need to succeed in school and beyond.
