826 Valencia is looking for someone to join our team as the full-time Educational Programs Director. This director will be responsible for the quality, implementation, and evaluation of all 826 Valencia student programs, both on-site and in schools.
Responsibilities:
- Managing the programming team of three full-time staffers
- Building relationships with SFUSD administrators, teachers, and parents
- Facilitating collaborative partnerships with community organizations
- Designing tutor trainings and coordinating volunteer appreciation events
- Maintaining and refining program evaluation tools
- Overseeing our satellite Writers’ Rooms at Everett Middle School and James Lick Middle School
- Managing the workshops program, including training and supporting volunteer-teachers, recruiting students, scheduling classes, and managing registration
- Coordinating informational and/or educational community events
Minimum qualifications:
- Exceptional communication skills, both written and interpersonal
- Excellent organizational skills; ability to multi-task
- A passion to improve literacy and a deep commitment to student success
- A valid teaching credential and at least two years of experience in a public school classroom
- Experience working with groups of teachers on collaborative projects
- Strong knowledge of the SFUSD and Bay Area education issues, including a clear understanding of the issues around diversity in public school settings
- A strong work ethic with the ability to manage multiple projects successfully without a lot of supervision
- A love of books and publishing
- Spanish/English fluency
Preferred qualifications:
- Experience presenting curricular and reform ideas at conferences
- CLAD or BCLAD certification, or a Masters in Education
- Experience organizing large numbers of people moving in many directions
