Family and friends of 826 Valencia, meet Eugenie Howard-Johnston!
Eugenie joins us as Programs and Events Coordinator. Her duties include coordinating special events, organizing our evening and weekend workshops, overseeing our bustling intern program, and helping to maintain our website. Eugenie is an 826 Valencia veteran, having served as an intern from January to June of 2007, when she not only worked on the 826 website and created and managed the 826 blog, but also coordinated our first ever Mustache-a-Thon, helping to raise over $15,000 in just six weeks!
Eugenie literally brings a world of experience with her to 826. She has a BA in Classics from the University of Oxford, UK, as well as an MA in Social & Cultural Studies from UC Berkeley’s Graduate School of Education. As a Project Leader for Travel Aid HIV/AIDS Education Project, Eugenie organized and coordinated a two-month trip to Kenya for select Oxford students, including raising funds to finance the project, and planning lessons and other activities while in Kenya. She has coordinated events for Survival International and Join Action Committee Against Racial Inequality in Oxford. Eugenie’s range of teaching experience extends from media studies to Latin (she was head of the Media Studies and Latin Departments at St. Saviour’s & St. Olave’s School, London, UK) to tutoring Afghan immigrants in London and student-athletes at Berkeley. She also has been a freelance journalist with various British publications for nearly ten years and still continues to write.
We are thrilled to have Eugenie and all her creativity, enthusiasm and passion for 826 Valencia with us again. Welcome, Eugenie!
