This year, summer camp was an awesome success! Students participated in workshops taught by professional writers and performers like Dave Eggers, Stephen Elliott, Daisy Hernandez, Erik Gleiberman, Liza Raynal, Ruby Veridiano-Ching, Vendela Vida, Doug Sweetland, and Joe Boyd. During the week students developed their own writing styles and filled up pages and pages with poems, monologues, short stories and more. In addition to the workshops here in the lab, students also went on some great trips to Intersection for the Arts, where Sean San Jose ran a theater-related workshop, and The Marsh, where Liza Raynal performed her solo show, American Joe. By the end of the week students published their work in this year’s summer camp chapbook, After the End: Can I Keep This Pen.On Friday August 15, the last day of camp, students gave a reading of their best pieces to family and friends. The room was loud with cheers, applause and pride as we wrapped up an incredible week of young authors’ hard work and dedication.
