Straight-Up News Summer Edition Is Out!

The students of Ms. Estrella's multimedia art class have completed their most recent edition of the Straight-Up News (SUN)! In the paper's fifth year, students have continued its respected reputation with in-depth articles, and creative investigation. The young journalists magnify the issues that relate not only to students and parents but the community as a whole. Can iPods be educational? Is President Obama changing the minds of the youth today, or are they changing his? Full of insight and perspective, these articles are a great triumph for the Straight-Up News team. The students worked incredibly hard and dedicated to themselves to becoming writers and seeing the world through a journalist's eye. They spent time on the newspaper in the Writers' Room, a satellite room in Everett Middle School hosted by 826 Valencia that allows students to work one-on-one with trained volunteers from the community to improve writing skills.

We celebrated the most recent edition of the SUN by eating pizza and reading each others articles aloud. The students proved to be naturals at creating a buzz around school with the newest edition of the Straight-Up News. Their enthusiasm and excitement was contagious while they hand delivered the newspapers to teachers and students. Congratulations on a job well done and a newsworthy edition.

Check the Writing Gallery on our website for all three editions of the Straight-Up News or stop by The Pirate Store for a free copy.
