826 Valencia is looking for an experienced, dynamic, highly organized Development Director to oversee all aspects of fundraising and public relations for the organization including planning, budgeting, monitoring and implementation. This is a full-time position that reports directly to the Executive Director, and at times requires out-of-hours work, on evenings and weekends.

Responsibilities:

- Develop and implement an overall fundraising plan including prospect research, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship development
- Build and maintain strong, positive relationships with existing and prospective corporate, foundation, and individual funding sources

- Prepare high-quality grant proposals, project budgets, and year-end reports 

- Work directly with the events coordinator to oversee all fundraising events including house parties, storytelling dinners, our annual breakfast, and larger one-time events
- Manage the donor database and the donor/grants calendars, and ensure that appropriate recognition and reporting occurs for all donations, grants and contracts
- Oversee the development of communications and fundraising materials
- Initiate new and maintain existing presence on social networking sites
- Field press inquiries and initiate contact with press when appropriate
- Oversee a 15-person volunteer development committee
- Provide the Executive Director with timely reports and updates on fundraising, as requested

Qualifications:

- A flexible, creative, entrepreneurial spirit and a demonstrated passion for the mission, vision and values of 826 Valencia
- Exceptional written and oral communication skills, with the ability to engage and inspire a wide range of audiences
- At least three to five years of fundraising experience, with a record of actively securing gifts from individual donors and foundations, as well as having worked effectively with staff and board members
- Experience working with nonprofit and/or educational organizations and holding fiscal responsibilities; proven track record of maintaining fiscal integrity and budget compliance 

- Comprehensive experience tracking projections and producing reports utilizing Microsoft Excel and/or a sophisticated fundraising database
- Experience with press campaigns, press management, pitching, and media reporting
- Proven organizational and project management skills
- Bachelors degree or equivalent experience required; Masters degree preferred
- Bilingual writing skills are a plus

Salary is commensurate with experience.
