We are thrilled to announce that 826 was recently awarded a $40,000 grant by the Lurie Foundation, which is dedicated to improving the lives of youth and their families. This is obviously a huge accomplishment, and we owe a great thank you to our grants committee.

The grant from Lurie is for one year, and the following year they will award 826 an additional $30,000 provided we can match it with our own fundraising efforts. more »

We are thrilled to be creating an 826 Valencia Writer’s Room on campus at Everett Middle School. This will be our first daily, in-school tutoring effort. This is a huge endeavor and will impact every student on campus. We will coordinate with the language arts department to work on specific teacher-driven projects during school hours. Tutor and workshop teacher Laurel Newby will be the main liaison between tutors and Everett’s teachers, enabling us to better serve both teachers and students. We anticipate that Everett students will make great progress with their writing as a result of the individual attention they receive.
