Join us for a saucy evening seminar moderated by Yosh Han, olfactory columnist and creator of the perfume line YOSH. Panelists will discuss the art of developing strong female characters and voice. Sip cocktails, test scents, and get inspired to write! Special appearance by Ms. Monster, host of the local late night variety show B-Minus Presents: Hel on Ice.
Panelists include:
Cameron Tuttle, author of The Bad Girl's Guide to Getting What You Want. Her publishing empire, Bad Girl Swirl, Inc, produces everything from journals and books to cards and calendars. A self-described "femme realist," she recently co-created a television show called The Bad Girl's Guide which aired on UPN.
Jane Ganahl, editor of Single Woman of a Certain Age. Ganahl is the author of "Single Minded," a column on all things single and female that has been running since early 2002. Her work has been appearing in Bay Area newspapers for 20 years, and she is a co-founder of Litquake, an annual San Francisco literary festival.
April Sinclair, author of Coffee Will Make You Black, the 1994 American Library Association Book of the Year. Sinclair has worked to promote literacy in juvenile and adult prisons, drug rehabilitation centers, and alternative schools across the country. She is currently at work on her fourth novel.
Lane Kennedy, author of Troubles of Being a Girl. Kennedy discovered her love of writing after leaving a long career as a fashion model in Los Angeles. She has since been a world traveler and English language teacher, and hopes to continue writing and educating about women's issues.
Charlotte Sheedy is a bold soul sister and also a literary agent who represents an assortment of wonderful folks including Cameron Tuttle, Jacqueline Woodson, Eve Ensler, Mark Kurlansky, Maira Kalman, Lisa Brown and Daniel Handler, who is also known as Lemony Snicket. She grew up speaking Yiddish in Philadelphia and reading Ernest Hemingway in the public library.
In addition to reflecting on the writing process, the panelists will address issues related to the publishing aspects of writing, such as contacting agents and working with publishing houses. Each panelist comes to 826 with a unique experience and approach to writing, but all can truly be described as Brainy Babes. No details will be spared, all pertinent secrets will be revealed.
