Writing and Publishing Your Memoir

Join us for an evening seminar moderated by Oscar Villalon, the book editor of the San Francisco Chronicle, as he leads an esteemed panel of memoir writers in a discussion on the joys and perils specific to writing and publishing the memoir. Panelists for this seminar include:

  • Sean Wilsey, is the author of a memoir, Oh the Glory of It All, and the co-editor, with Matt Weiland, of The Thinking Fan’s Guide to the World Cup, and the forthcoming State by State, a new WPA guide to America. He has also been at work on a website, ohtheglory.com. Born in San Francisco, he now lives in New York with his wife, Daphne Beal, and their children.

  • Pat Montandon, the author of five books. She has received the United Nations Peace Messenger award as well as other awards and accolades, including nominations for the Nobel Peace Prize. Her latest book Oh the Hell of It All: A Memoir will be released April 15, 2007.

  • Peggy Orenstein, the author, most recently, of the New York Times Best-Selling memoir, Waiting for Daisy: A Tale of Two Continents, Three Religions, Five Infertility Doctors, An Oscar, An Atomic Bomb, A Romantic Night and One Woman’s Quest to Become a Mother. She is a contributing writer for The New York Times Magazine, Mother Jones, Salon, and The New Yorker.

  • Lisa Gray-Garcia, a journalist, poet and community activist. She is the founder of POOR magazine and the PoorNewsNetwork (PNN), a monthly radio broadcast and an online news service focused on issues of poverty and racism. Her memoir is called Criminal of Poverty: Growing up Homeless in America.


    Each panelist comes to 826 with a unique approach to memoir writing. No details will be spared, all pertinent secrets will be revealed.
