This special event is different from our Adult Writers' Seminars; rather than a panel-style discussion, this intimate talk will focus on the generation of memoir, using the author's recent book, The Adderall Diaries, to start a discussion on the process of figuring out your story and how to turn your personal experience into a publishable work.

Admission is $25 and includes a copy of the book.

We'll use this book as a jumping off point for more general ideas on writing memoir and some of the problems the memoir writer may encounter. In the talk we'll discuss dealing with family members and friends who may not want to be written about and we'll also go through some writing tips for accessing memories and experiences.

This is Stephen Elliott's first memoir but his seventh book, all of them written from personal experience. His books include Happy Baby, a finalist for the New York Public Library's Young Lion Award as well as a best book of 2004 in Salon.com, Newsday, Chicago New City, The Journal News, and The Village Voice. In addition to writing fiction he frequently writes on politics. In 2004 he wrote Looking Forward To It, about the quest for the Democratic Presidential nomination. Elliott's writing has been featured in, among others, Esquire, The New York Times, The Believer, GQ, Best American Non-Required Reading 2005 and 2007. He is the editor of The Rumpus.
