It has been two-and-a-half years since I started attending Sonoma State University, so I am considered to be in a junior standing, even if I still need to take only one more class in order to be considered a junior.
Throughout the fall of 2009 I have experienced a new kind of learning. I have now figured out that I am going through experiences, which have been fostering my engagement in the academic community and have been reinforcing my intense involvement in my classes. This has undoubtedly enabled me to arrive at a deeper understanding of why I am a unique student who benefits from the education provided at Sonoma State University.
Since I am going through the “middle years” in college, I have discovered that I have developed the skills to assist myself in this developmental transition, which, it seems every student in college has to go through, at some point while in college. As I develop throughout my time on campus, as a junior, I am interested in continuing my advancement of knowledge. Moreover, I see this as the time for me to gain valuable experiences that will assist me with my chosen career path, which will allow me to draw connections between my courses and any experiences I go through outside of the classroom. I also believe that now it is the time of my life to refine my leadership skills through active duty both on and off campus. As a result, I see the “middle years” of college, which is what I am going through right now, as a transition from my first year of college to the rest of my life.
Furthermore, I have indeed reached the midway checkpoint of my college career. It makes me feel as if I have already accomplished something “big.” I surely have to say that I have found what I was looking for in life so far. And that I am able to say that I am not still drifting around looking for direction, for I have decided that I am going to major in Criminal Justice Studies and Criminology. Also, since I am currently taking an introduction course to Criminal Justice Policy, I find it interesting to learn about what I am going to be dealing with. Finally, I would also like to thank 826 Valencia for always being supportive of my education.
