Student Writing
Catzilla

by Bessie Bleeker, age 10

Literacy experts say reading aloud to one’s pet is a great way to become a more confident reader. It’s also really, really fun. In the Writing for Your Pet workshop, we teach students that cats and dogs have no interest in the sports pages. They want stories written just for them. As expected, our students are more than ready to meet the challenge. For the next week and a half, we’ll be sharing some of our favorite stories from the most recent session.

It was a regular day for everyone in New York when all of a sudden the ground rumbled for about 3 seconds then everything was normal but then it happened again and a gigantic cat with sleek shinning fur and glittering yellow eyes. Most anyone would have thought it was cute except for the fact it was giant and going to destroy New York as the cat did a what seemed like a giant Meow when the earth shook and a dog showed up, but not just one dog but a dog army (the millidoggy). New York thought they were safe when all the dogs charged, but no sooner it was raining dogs and literally. And with one giant hiss the cat crawled away. Everyone was safe so everyone went back to there normal lives.

Years later… the ground rumbled slightly all heads were turned when giant kittens with pink damp noses and sleek fur came. Is everyone safe we don’t know…
