About our Education Programs Internship

826 Valencia’s Education Programs Internship is an opportunity to learn about the field of education in a nonprofit environment! In the education programs track, you will grow your youth development skills and provide consistent, culturally responsive support to youth from under-resourced communities.

To support hands-on learning, Education Programs Interns receive direct coaching, dedicated training, and professional development. Day to day, interns learn about effective writing instruction by tutoring students in grades 3 through 12 in small groups, assisting our staff with summer writing camps, and creating a welcoming, fun, and inclusive atmosphere for student learning.

We are committed to fostering an environment of diversity, equity, and inclusion, and we encourage all to apply.

Requirements

  • Ability to commit to the 3-, 4-, or 6-week program schedule of 9 am–12 pm and/or 12 pm–3 pm (Mission Bay and Mission locations) OR 9:30 am–12:45 pm, 12 pm–3:15 pm, and/or some days extending to 4 or 5 pm (Tenderloin location) (7-week program)
  • Ability to regularly commute to San Francisco (Mission, Mission Bay, and/or Tenderloin neighborhoods)
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills (editing/proofreading experience is a plus)
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, as well as to our mission of supporting youth ages 6–18 with their creative and expository writing skills
  • Teaching/tutoring experience with youth in a professional setting preferred
  • Spanish, Arabic, and/or Vietnamese language skills are desirable
  • Proficiency with Google Suite and Zoom preferred
  • Background check and TB Risk Assessment required upon position acceptance
