Position Snapshot

 

We are looking for Educational Programming Interns to support our students at 826 Valencia! If you love working with young people, enjoy helping students explore their imaginations and express themselves creatively through writing, and are eager to learn more about the nonprofit world, we may be a good fit for you.

 

826 Valencia’s Internship Program is an educational opportunity for students and non-students alike. 

 

Timeline

 

We’re currently seeking three interns for the 2025–2026 school year, beginning in January and running through the end of May. Please note that this internship will take place in person at one or more of our Centers and/or school sites in San Francisco.

 

About our Education Programs Internship

 

Our Educational Programs Interns support our student programs in a variety of ways, including tutoring K-12 students 1:1 or in small groups, helping prepare our students’ work for publication, and assisting our staff around the classroom while creating a welcoming, supportive, and inclusive environment for learning.

 

We are looking to fill the following THREE internship placements for 10–20 hours per week. 

 

Note: The ideal schedules for each position are listed below, but there is some flexibility if needed.

 


1. Mission Bay Intern

  • Programs & Locations: In-school creative writing programs with third- to fifth-grade students at Bret Harte Elementary (1035 Gilman Ave.), Charles Drew Elementary (50 Pomona St.), and Malcolm X Academy (200-398 Harbor Rd.); After-School Tutoring at 826 Valencia Mission Bay Center (1310 4th St.)

 

  • Schedule:

– Monday: 3:45–6:15 pm
– Tuesday: 2–6:15 pm
– Thursday: 12–3 pm
– Friday: 8:45 am–12 pm

 

  • Compensation & Benefits: $20/hr

2. Mission Center After-School Intern

  • Programs & Locations: After-school Tutoring at 826 Valencia Mission Center (826 Valencia St.)

 

  • Schedule:

Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday
– Tuesday & Thursday: 3:30–8 pm
– Wednesday: 2:30–5:30 pm

 

  • Compensation & Benefits: $20/hr

3. Tenderloin Intern

  • Programs & Location: In-school creative writing support with third- to fifth-grade students at Tenderloin Community School (627 Turk St.); After-School Workshops and Field Trips at the 826 Valencia Tenderloin Center (180 Golden Gate Ave.)

 

  • Schedule:

– Monday: 9:30 am–12:30 pm; 3–5:10 pm
– Tuesday: 9:20 am–12:40 pm; 3–5:10 pm
– Wednesday: 3–5:10 pm
– Thursday: 9:20 am–12:40 pm; 3–5:10 pm

 

  • Compensation & Benefits: $20/hr

Requirements

 

  • Ability to regularly commute to and around San Francisco
  • Interns will work up to 10–20 hours per week, supporting programs that take place on weekdays between 8:30 am and 6:30 pm (hours will be clarified during the interview)
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Commitment to our mission of supporting youth from under-resourced communities with their creative and expository writing skills
  • Teaching/tutoring experience with youth in a professional setting preferred
  • Spanish, Arabic, Mandarin, and/or Cantonese language skills preferred
  • Livescan background check and TB risk assessment
