On June 11, the 826 Valencia community hosted six shining stars and their families at the San Francisco LGBT Community Center for our 2013 Scholarship Dinner.
The airy room was beautifully decorated and we were excited to see past scholars return in support of the new students, we welcomed some of the families that make our scholarships possible, and the room was filled with supporters honoring the college-bound scholars.
Over dinner and drinks provided by the generous folks at Books Inc. we applauded the effort, talents, and perseverance of Diana Phan, the winner of the Young Author’s Scholarship; Carlos Flores, the Taylor Renfrew Ingham Memorial Scholarship winner; Rachel Melissa Scales, the winner of the Irving Hochman Memorial Scholarship; Derek Alexander Morrell, the Nathan Jillson Memorial Scholarship winner; and Daisy Guzman and Erika Sarai Ramos, the winners of the two 826 Valencia Scholarships. We are honored to know these students, and we look forward to staying in touch as they all head off to their first semesters of college at the end of summer.
Each year, 826 is able to award six $15,000 scholarships to Bay Area high school seniors with the help of the program’s generous supporters; their dedication continues to make a huge impact on the opportunities we can provide. We would like to thank City Arts & Lectures, the Brin Wojcicki Foundation, and the family of Taylor Renfrew Ingham for funding the scholarship program. We would also like to thank Books Inc. for providing and serving the delicious dinner, which helped 826 truly celebrate the guests of honor in style.
