One of our volunteers — David Kirp, a professor of Public Policy at UC Berkeley — recently wrote a piece about 826 Valencia for the Washington Post. He explained our model, why it’s important to foster student creativity, and what makes our approach unique and successful. We are so lucky to have people like him in our community, and so moved by his words.
Kirp writes, “The tutors are volunteers, who sign up because they love writing. There is no set-piece curriculum — the aim is to get kids, many of them minority youngsters from poor families, writing about whatever they care about most.”
