A spotlight on some of our Mission Bay neighbors

Our new Mission Bay center, located at 626 Mission Bay Boulevard, is part of a much larger community — one that is diverse, resilient, and vibrant.

The building that houses Woodland Creature Outfitters, Ltd. and our third writing and tutoring center  also provides 153 units of affordable housing, including housing for 30 formerly homeless families. Being a part of this building has allowed us to get to know  its wonderful residents — like Hiba and Jesus, whose stories are told here.

Hiba’s daughter, Meshkat, was the first student to sign up for our after-school tutoring program, and she and her brother Karim have become regulars in our programs. Being a part of 626 Mission Bay has afforded us opportunities to utilize Jesus’ unique connection with students in the building at our tutoring sessions. This close relationship with our Mission Bay community — many of whom live just upstairs –is one of the things that we love about our new space.

“826 Valencia, a renowned nonprofit dedicated to supporting under-resourced students with their creative and expository writing skills, opened a new center in the building, and Hiba is thrilled that her daughter’s work has already been published in A Magical Forest with Sparkles and Stars, a book published by the nonprofit. ‘It’s going to help my children be smart – I like that,’ she says.”

We are so excited and proud to be a part of such a supportive and committed community. Read on to learn more about Hiba, Jesus, and 626 Mission Bay Blvd.
