Tim Puranen is a third-grade teacher at Malcolm X Academy, where he is admired by colleagues and community members alike. Nominators had much to say about the way Tim bonds with students through “zeal and passion,” bringing innovation and wit to the classroom.
Mr. Puranen is known for his smart use of technology and art in his lectures, sparking students’ enthusiasm whether he is leading an after-school robotics club or illustrating frames of a comic strip to liven up a lesson on dialogue and punctuation.
Tim goes above and beyond for his community, jumping on every opportunity to connect with students and their families. He is part of the School Site Council and also an active member of the school’s literacy and math nights, inspiring his pupils to participate in different projects. But his involvement doesn’t end there! He takes his efforts even further, partnering with a dance company to offer movement and performance classes to students. Phew! We’re tired and inspired just reading about all those activities.
His commitment and passion for teaching are also a hit amongst parents and co-workers alike. Nominators can’t stop praising his witty and warmhearted personality, noting that “his sense of humor is a breath of fresh air.”
