We are delighted to announce our September 2023 Teacher of the Month! Ms. Ellie Donovan is a sixth grade social studies teacher at Presidio Middle School and has been teaching for seven years. She is being recognized for her passion, work ethic, and commitment to her students, school, and community.
One parent says, “I haven’t met a single student who doesn’t love Ms Donovan.”
Ms. Donovan isa positive and energetic person, a teacher who cares about making learning fun for her students while maintaining boundaries to allow for an effective learning environment in her classroom. Students feel supported, safe, loved, and respected by her. At the same time, they are having fun while learning a lot, and gain a sense of accomplishment in her classes.
In a message to Ms. Donovan, one of her students tells her, “Your class is one that I always look forward to. You make your lessons fun and interesting, and your sense of humor is a great one. I always feel like I walk out of your classroom with so much more knowledge.”
Ms. Donovan’s willingness to help, her exceptional effort, and her commitment to her school all help to keep Presidio Middle School running smoothly. For example, whenever the school may be in need of a substitute, Ms. Donovan often comes to the rescue, sacrificing her limited time! Ms. Donovan is also one of the representatives and leaders of the teachers union at Presidio Middle School.
Ms. Donovan continues to foster creativity in her classroom by creating a culture where everyone feels safe to share their ideas and explore new perspectives. Allowing students to experience independent thinking and open mindedness leads to interesting group discussions, and personal growth.
A sixth grade student says, “Ms. Donovan is one of the most hardworking teachers that I have ever met in my six years of school. I love the music decorations and the vibe in the room. Her space feels like a home where I feel safe.”
In class, Ms. Donovan knows how to tie in fun projects, incorporating the news of the day into the lesson plan, or even adding in hands-on projects (like apple mummification!) to keep her students involved in the day’s work. Her sense of humor, knack for creativity, and love of learning shine through in her lessons and her interactions with students.
”She is socially interactive, helpful, considerate, and humorous. She has a positive and helpful attitude seemingly regardless of what occurs outside of the classroom,” says another one of her students.
As an outstanding educator, Ms. Donovan’s considerate and consistent support for her classroom and community at Presidio Middle School are worthy of tremendous admiration.
