Join us as a tutor for the Young Authors’ Book Project

The Young Authors’ Book Project, our biggest publication project of the year, is right around the corner, and we need you! Yes, you!

We’re getting ready for the 2018 Young Authors’ Book Project, our biggest publication project of the year, and we need you!

What’s the Young Authors’ Book Project?

The YABP is one of our most in-depth tutoring experiences, and it’s a chance for tutors to form meaningful, one-on-one connections with an amazing group of high school students as they become published authors over the course of five weeks. We would love to have your support for this exciting project!

This year, we’re partnering with Ms. Taylor and Mr. Hennessey at Ida B. Wells Continuation High School. Students in their two co-taught English/Language Arts classes will be grappling with themes from Khaled Hosseini’s The Kite Runner. Tutors will be helping students to write, revise, and polish narratives related to ethics and identity.

We invite new and returning tutors to participate in this very special tutoring opportunity. You can secure your spot by signing up on our Volunteer Calendar. All tutors must attend a project-specific training on Tuesday, January 9 from 9:00 – 10:30 a.m. at 826 Valencia, that will tell you everything you need to know. We ask all tutors to commit to a regular schedule for all ten sessions of this project (tutoring twice a week for five weeks).

Tutoring sessions will take place on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8:45 to 10:45 a.m., January 11 – February 13

The collection will then be edited by a student and volunteer editorial board, professionally printed, and sold in bookstores nationwide. We’ll celebrate with a reading and release party in May.
