This holiday season the 826 Valencia Pirate Supply Store is sending you on a treasure hunt around the City and even across the Bay for a very special tote bag. Home truly is where you make it—whether that be the Mission, Oakland, or even inside a whale at the bottom of the ocean! This beautiful tote bag is only available in select partner stores during the month of December—catch them while you can! As always, all proceeds benefit all of our free writing programs at 826 Valencia.
1. E. M. Wolfman General Interest Small Bookstore
Former Pirate Store manager, Justin Carder, now operates a bookstore, gallery, event space (seriously, check out all of those events!), and home repair shop out of this amazing store one block from the Downtown Oakland – 12th Street BART station. Check it out.
You may be familiar with Rare Device on Divisadero and this new location offers even more lovely items for your home, yourself, and your family. From owner, Giselle Gyalzen: “Every object in the store has its own story, and has been chosen because it is either handmade, well-designed, useful, beautiful or all of the above. The aesthetic is modern and whimsical while remaining warm and inviting.”
3. Green Apple Books on the Park
More new! This branch of the legendary Green Apple Books is situated just across Golden Gate Park in the Inner Sunset. Same magical world of books with the bonus feature of new wood smell. And, somehow, these guys seem to attract all of the cutest dogs.
If you buy your tote bag here, you can fill it up with candy and cupcakes. The most beautiful cupcakes. Yum.
While we don’t have the tote bag for sale at the Pirate Supply Store, we have many other beautifully designed products and you can check out 826 Quarterly, Volume 14 where we found our inspiration in a beautiful illustration by Joel Gregory.
