Calling all new volunteers!

Please join us Saturday, August 22, for a community volunteer event where you can learn about our Fall volunteer opportunities, and meet and mingle with new and seasoned volunteers.

We are currently seeking both dedicated tutors and behind-the-scenes creatives for the 2015-2016 school year. By committing to a full year of tutoring, you will reap the benefits of developing personal connections with our students and experience immeasurable joy, energy from enthusiastic kids, and the awesome feeling of knowing that you made a difference in a child’s development as a young writer and thinker. Design, videography, and photography volunteers are contracted on a per-project basis, and most projects last one to two months.

Volunteering as a Tutor

Volunteers are the heart and soul of our programs, and are the primary way we’re able to offer our support to all students completely free of charge. We’re looking for people who are able to be relentlessly positive, see all students as having potential, and are interested in promoting a love of learning. Folks with an average of 1–3 hours per week to volunteer are encouraged to apply to become tutors, our shorthand for referring to all those who do the important work of supporting our students one-on-one. The majority of our tutoring opportunities occur weekdays between 9:00 a.m. and 6:30 p.m., though we also have evening and weekend opportunities. Get the inside scoop on how you can get involved as a volunteer and discover the dazzling possibilities that await you! Be sure to register if you’d like to receive more information on how to get started. We’ll be holding orientations throughout the fall semester—sign up early so you can join in all the tutoring fun!

Volunteering Behind the Scenes

We’re also seeking experienced creative professionals to help with designing publications (check out past examples here!), marketing materials, window displays, and Pirate Store products. We also frequently need professional photographers and videographers to document our events and programming. If you’re interested in volunteering creative skills like these, please contact Design Director MarĂa InĂ©s Montes at maria@826valencia.org.
