We’re Seeking a Grants Research Volunteer

826 Valencia is seeking a dedicated Grants Research Volunteer to support our two-person Institutional Giving team 3–5 hours a week. This role will identify and assess potential new funding opportunities on top of existing corporate, foundation, and government partners. We’re looking for a strong communicator who is detail-oriented and excited about 826 Valencia’s mission. Our team believes in the power of partnerships between funders and nonprofits to address educational and societal inequities. We will provide training, materials, and tools such as a research template form and a prospect list.

💫 Areas of support:

  • Funder Prospecting: Conduct thorough research to identify potential local and national funders, grants, and opportunities that align with our organization’s mission
  • Grant Opportunity Assessment: Evaluate the relevance and suitability of potential corporate or foundation funders; review their guidelines, requirements, limitations, and priorities
  • Record Findings: Maintain well-organized and up-to-date files about potential funding sources, including funding focus, eligibility criteria, contact information, deadlines, etc., to be reviewed by the Grants Team
  • Maintain Files: Organize findings and materials clearly to ensure the Grants Team has access to all necessary information
  • Collaboration: Report to the Grants and Database Manager, meeting once a week to set goals, review progress, and address any challenges

🧑‍💻 What we’re looking for:

  • An interest in nonprofit fundraising and grantmaking 
  • Excellent online research and prospecting skills, or relevant experience
  • Attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently and in collaboration
  • Grant writing experience is a bonus
