“Looking at the blue ocean
makes me want to jump in
, and explore
.”
Jose Gonzalez, age 12, Thomas Edison Charter Academy
After a unique year of adapting to the challenges of remote learning alongside our students and volunteers, we are jumping in (safely, and with much thought and planning) to a combination of in-person and online programs for our students and interested families this summer. All measures will be taken to make sure everyone joining us in person is able to do so safely, and online programs will be full of all the fun and individualized support we’ve brought to remote instruction all year. Read on to learn what’s available this summer and sign up!

For volunteers:
If you’re an active 826 Valencia volunteer, we might need your help this summer! We’re evaluating our tutor needs and schedule and will add shifts to the volunteer calendar as they arise. Stay tuned!
Looking to get started as a volunteer? We are currently pausing our volunteer orientations for the summer. But that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t register as a volunteer now! Learn more about volunteering and apply here. We will add you to our interest list, and reach out when we are beginning to orient new volunteers again, likely in late July.
As Zaid J. Rodriguez, age 8 from Tenderloin Community School, wrote: “I felt as sweaty as the summer of 2020.” Whatever it brings, summer 2021 will look a little different from the summer of 2020. Here’s hoping it’s just the right amount of sweaty!
