We’re pleased to introduce Ms. Tiffany Ng as our February Teacher of the Month! Ms. Ng is a math teacher extraordinaire at San Francisco International High School. She has taught Pre-Calculus, Calculus, Math support, CAHSEE prep, and Algebra 2 to juniors and seniors throughout her many years as a teacher.
On top of teaching, she is also the Math Department Chair, managing data for the entire school while also keeping their website updated. Her fellow teachers admire how she stays on top of everything, being a great support to the whole school community.
SFIHS has a 100% English Language Learner and immigrant student population, so she uses Google Images and Google Translate to help communicate with her students. In the past, she’s made sure to have videos in Spanish, Tagalog, Arabic, and Chinese, as well as in English. Because of the school’s demographics, she not only teaches math but also focuses on how to write in English as well—yes, her math classes include writing projects! One of her colleagues said, “As a result of her interactive, dynamic activities, students are actively engaging in math talk and developing English and critical thinking skills.”
Her classes are also known to be filled with love and laughter. Ms. Ng does group projects a lot, allowing students to collaborate and present together. She also offers differentiated teaching to all of her students, using different approaches for beginners and for those who are more advanced in the same class.
And the compliments don’t end there. Other coworkers have commented on how, “She builds very strong relationships with kids that last long after they graduate,” since so many students come back to visit her after they finish school. Her students mentioned that they can count on her whenever they need to, saying that “When she sees a student feeling like they want to give up she offers help in any circumstances.”
It’s clear that Tiffany Ng is an amazing asset to her fellow colleagues, students, and community as a whole. Keep up the great work and congratulations on landing our February Teacher of the Month Award!
