On September 21, Human Rights Watch and Voice of Witness hosted a reading and reception here at 826 Valencia in honor of the newest title in the Voice of Witness series, Throwing Stones at the Moon: Narratives from Colombians Displaced by Violence. The book’s editors Max Schoening and Sibylla Brodzinsky read from the collection of oral histories, which describe the most widespread of Colombia’s human rights crises: forced displacement.
The event also included a short meeting for teachers about the Voice of Witness Education Program, which offers curricular support and resources for educators using titles from the book series in their classrooms.
The Voice of Witness book series, started by author Dave Eggers and physician/human rights scholar Lola Vollen, publishes works that depict human rights crises through the stories of the men and women who experience them.
