Three cohorts of students comprise our largest youth leadership development program, the Youth Leadership Advisory Board (YLAB).
We recruit new YLAB members from students who are involved in our programs each fall and spring.

Based at our Mission Center, the Middle School Leadership Program aims to empower a dedicated group of 6-8th grade students through individualized support, expressive writing projects, and career-oriented field trips.

Thanks to remarkably generous donors, every year we award multiple scholarships to college-bound seniors who have participated in 826 Valencia programs. And every year the incredible applicants blow us away.
Scholarship applications open every spring.
We relaunched this program in 2026 in collaboration with Youth Speaks, the San Francisco Public Library, and the Mayor’s Office. Each year, we select a cohort of young poets to participate in a workshop series. Two participants are selected to represent our city as Youth Poet Laureate and Youth Vice Poet Laureate.
